We want them to live in peace on a sustainable planet.” With this determined message dedicated to youth and future generations, Vera El Khoury Lacoeuilhe, the candidate of Lebanon to the post of Director General of UNESCO, made the difference in her vision presented to the Executive Board of UNESCO in April 2017. As youth we can speak out for this coming election of the head of UNESCO and we can also try to make the difference. Vera is the only candidate that clearly expressed her main idea, based on the knowledge and understanding of the political and social context. She understands the challenges linked to this constant evolving world. She sees hope for today’s children and the coming generations. Vera is the best placed person to lead UNESCO because of her professional competencies, but also as an Arab and European woman. Born in Beirut in 1959, Vera is a diplomat with over two decades experience in multilateral diplomacy and international relations. She has in-depth knowledge of the design and structure of international organizations, which makes her an international authority on the UN system.
