The Youth Observatory (aka Youth SIG) is a nonprofit organization founded in September 2015 and joined the Internet Society ( ... ISOC) as "Special Interest Group" (SIG) since 2016. It is formed mostly of young people between 18 and 25 years from different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our objectives are the same as ISOC, specially the mission to promote the development of the Internet as a force for good in society. Besides, we emphasize the training of young people on Internet Governance issues, allowing them to take part of this ecosystem and actively participate in regional and international forums The Youth Observatory was an idea borned in the context of the Youth@IGF 2015, a fellowship program led by Internet Society and the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br). The program aimed to increase the participation of youth in the areas of discussion of Internet Governance in Latin America and the Caribbean. In its first year, 120 young people from the region took part of the program and attended the 10th Internet Governance Forum, held in João Pessoa, Brazil. While the Youth Observatory is looking to have a global reach, we are currently working on regional projects of capacity building, information dissemination and promotion of research by young people. Our main areas of concern on Internet Governance are gender and youth empowerment, access and diversity, cybersecurity and digital rights, besides others. All of our projects are funded by different organizations such as the Internet Society and ICANN. We invite all those interested in supporting the activities of our organization to contact us to odjuventud@gmail.com. Also, if you're young and you want to be part of our organization, you can submit an application for membership by logging into your account on the website: https://portal.isoc.org/home and sending an application to the "Youth SIG" into the tab My Chapters ". read more
