YAK (Young Adult Koinonia-Communtiy) is a 501C3 dedicated to establishing safe-sober community for young adults. We do this b ... y initiating projects, initiatives and events that engage young adults, especially in the inner city in relationship. We focus on multicultural opportunities. We began activities in 2003 and formerly organized as a non-profit in January of 2006. Since then we have worked with thousands of young adults, primarily in the Twin Cities but also in other areas of Minnesota and Kampala, Uganda and Morelos, Mexico. We have a variety of projects running at this time but our primary focus is on Frogtown Community House and Garden Project (FCHGP) and a linked initiative called the Safe City Project. The FCHGP is an urban renewal project that involves the purchase of a house in an area of St. Paul (Frogtown) that is currently the target for the neighborhood stabilization program. It includes a community garden and its purpose is to be a base camp for outreach by young adults to the city. The Safe City Project is a part of the FCHGP that works with local law enforcement, community organizations and residents to identify the area’s top criminal offenders and to explore creative ways that proactively engage them to steer them away from chronic criminal behavior. read more
