YITCHI, Youth Organising Committee Description The Youth Organising Committee (YITCHI) is not specifically a youth suicide pr ... ogram, but rather organises events for young people utilising the skills of young people in the community. The committee is made up of young people from all walks of life. The events give young people the opportunity to showcase their skills to their peers in a quality environment. One of the projects produced a CD which was a compilation of local youth bands. This was a cross section of music from gospel type music to the heavy metal music. Main Achievements The main achievement of the program is the continuing involvement of young people and their drive to increase the range of activities with which they want to be involved. Since 1998, Mrs Lawler has been instrumental in the development of major facilities for young people, including the PCYC Youth Recreation Centre and skate parks in Hervey Bay and Howard. The results of her projects with young people are evident in public places throughout Hervey Bay. Mrs Lawler has played a key role in the development of the Reconnect and Community Transport services, the Junior Council and Youth Achievement Awards, Holiday Program, After School activities, Youth Week and Beach/Foreshore activities for young people, Youth Speak Out Forums, Band and Film nights, and the YITCHI music program. Mrs Lawler constantly displays dedication and enthusiasm for young people as an advocate, a motivator and an enabler of young people. She is an outstanding leader in building the service sector and engendering a culture of working together. Under her guidance, local Indigenous young people have developed to a point where they have been recognised with Queensland and national awards.
