West High opened its doors in 1968 to a growing Iowa City west side community. Today, reflecting the continued growth in the ... west side communities, more than 1,500 students attend West High. The west side community prides itself in both the consistent high achievement of our students and the exemplary quality of our staff. West High is recognized at the local, state, and national levels as a leader in the quality of education provided for students. West students annually lead the state in ACT results, National AP Scholars, and National Merit Scholars. A culture of excellence at all levels pervades the school community with a continued focus on raising the bar for all students.
