WRTC is the federally-designated non-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) for the metro DC area and is responsible for recovering and distributing organs and tissues used in lifesaving transplants as well as far-reaching medical research and therapy. WRTC covers all of the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and the "Capital Beltway" counties in Maryland. WRTC serves approximately 4.7 million people, 44 hospitals and six transplant centers.
