Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA) is an independent, democratic group comprised of 156 emergency medicine specialists. Ou ... r providers include 102 Physicians who are board certified or board eligible in emergency medicine. Of those providers, 9 Physicians are subspecialty boarded in Pediatric Emergency Medicine or dually boarded in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. In addition to our physicians, WEPPA also employs 54 Advanced Practice Providers (APP’s) who are experienced in emergency medicine, as well as a full staff of support personnel to manage our daily operations. WEPPA provides emergency medical services throughout the WakeMed Health and Hospital system. There are 7 ED’s in the WakeMed system, including the Raleigh Campus, Children’s Emergency Department (CED), Cary Hospital, North Family Health and Woman’s Hospital, Apex Healthplex, Brier Creek Healthplex and Garner Healthplex. The emergency department at WakeMed’s Raleigh Campus is a Level I Trauma Center, a Certified Chest Pain Center, and a Stroke Center. The Raleigh Campus also houses North Carolina’s first autonomous Children’s Emergency Department. In July 2005, WEPPA, in conjunction with WakeMed, opened the state’s first stand-alone emergency department at WakeMed’s North Healthplex in Raleigh, NC. In February 2008, we began staffing the region’s second stand-alone emergency department at WakeMed’s Apex Healthplex in Apex, NC. In October 2009, WEPPA expanded outside Wake County by joining forces with Johnston Health to open a third stand-alone emergency department in Clayton, NC. We are also pleased to announce that we began providing services at the Granville Medical Center in Oxford, NC in March 2013. In 2016, WEPPA physicians and APP’s treated over 350,000 patients in the emergency departments we staff. This includes caring for 43,000 kids in WakeMed’s Children Emergency Department. In addition to patient care, Wake Emergency Physicians, PA is involved in training new physicians and APPs throughout their education, residency and fellowship. In conjunction with the University of North Carolina’s Department of Emergency Medicine, WEPPA shares equal responsibility for providing didactic and clinical teaching for UNC’s Emergency Medicine Residency program. In 2008, WEPPA along with UNC and WakeMed founded the UNC Peds/EM Fellowship program. This program is based almost exclusively within the WakeMed system, with administrative leadership and the Fellowship Director from within the WEPPA physicians. Additionally, we support clinical rotations for Medical students from UNC and other local universities within our ED’s. Recently, WEPPA and WakeMed also became a primary clinical site/instructors for APP students from Campbell University and Wake Forest APP programs. WEPPA is very proud of the care we deliver to our patients each day. Our relationships with WakeMed, Johnston Health and Granville Health System provide the opportunity to work in outstanding emergency departments and enhance our ability to deliver exceptional emergency care. Our relationships with local universities give us the privilege of training new physicians and new APPs in our chosen fields of emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine. Both the clinical and educational components of our practice make working within this group a very unique and exciting career path for all of us. read more
