The Massena Fire Department is a Combination Career/ Volunteer Fire Department comprised of 9 Career Firefighters and 63 Volu ... nteer Firefighters. The Fire Department has been an integral part of the Massena community for over 100 years. The Massena Fire Station, located at 34 Andrews Street, is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by the Career Firefighters. When an Emergency call comes in, our career and volunteer firefighters respond to the incident to render whatever aid is necessary. All career firefighters of the Fire Department are graduates of the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls, New York and receive a minimum of 100 hours of in-service training annually. All volunteer firefighters have various levels and amounts of training ranging from interior attack, Fire suppression, command, scene support operations, and other training principles. Recently, the Village of Massena Fire Department achieved an ISO Rating of 4. This rating is used by insurance companies to help determine insurance premiums for fire insurance of your home. The Village of Massena Fire Departments station crew is headed by a Foreman, Assistant Foreman, with a total of 8 members of the Massena Permanent Firefighters, Local #2220, an affiliate member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The Volunteers of the Massena Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. is lead by One Chief, Two assistant Chiefs, Three Captains, and Three Lieutenants and is an Affiliate member of Firemen's Association of the State of New York. The Village of Massena Fire Department and the career fire fighters of the Massena Permanent Fire Fighters are also responsible for the Town and Village of Massena's Code Enforcement Division. read more
