The Victoria Legal Support Staff Association (formerly the Victoria Legal Secretaries’ Association) (‘VLSA’) is a non-profit ... organization formed in 1974 and is made up of legal support staff who are currently employed as well as those seeking employment and those who have retired from the profession. We offer legal education courses and seminars presented by members of the Victoria and British Columbia Bar Association at a fraction of the cost of taking a course through CLE as well as many other services. We offer a free Employment Service whereby members of VLSA seeking employment are contacted by our Employment Chair with news of available positions in the area. The Employment Chair is then able to supply the prospective employer with a list of persons currently seeking employment and a brief description of their background. We offer scholarships to legal office assistant and paralegal program students and a valuable mentorship program. We meet every other month in a meeting room at the Comfort Hotel, 3020 Blanshard Street (formerly the Holiday Inn) next to Mayfair Mall. Each meeting includes a different guest speaker, general meeting information as well as dinner, dessert and a beverage. Recently our speakers have included: a Physiatrist speaking to us about Myofascial Pain & Post Traumatic Migraines, Manager of the Land Title and Survey Authority discussing improvements to the Electronic Filing System of LTSA documents, representatives of the Victoria Divorce Registry, lawyers discussing financial documents and ethics, and many more. We believe it is important to grow and change with the times and we have done so. We have also found that there are numerous advantages to meeting you peers “face to face”. It is amazing how much easier and more productive our jobs can be when we develop a good rapport with other people in our field.
