Vello was initially built as a new and innovative strategy to improve student literacy in Maricopa County, Arizona. Now, with ... the Valley of the Sun United Way in charge, Vello has expanded and spread to 12 other United Ways across the system. Vello focuses on improving student literacy by connecting passionate volunteers with a classroom in a local elementary school. Through Vello's innovative online tutoring program, students and volunteer tutors connect and read books from a virtual library. Because it's virtual, volunteers can engage with students from the convenience of their own home or office. Commitment is only 30 minutes a week.
