Going door-to-door selling sugar, flour and shortening, he would take the customer's order and then deliver it right off the truck. As the years went by, there became more competition. Because Ernie’s competitors had more products to offer, he had to look for new ways to be competitive. Offering more product lines seemed to be the answer to his competition.
