Priories of the Order are found today throughout the Commonwealth of Nations, in the United States, the Republic of Ireland, and in Hong Kong, with the worldwide mission "to prevent and relieve sickness and injury, and to act to enhance the health and well-being of people anywhere in the world.” The Order has approximately 25,000 members worldwide, and is perhaps best known for the health organizations it has founded and continues to run, including St John Ambulance throughout the UK and Commonwealth countries, and the St John Eye Hospital Group, which is the main beneficiary of fund-raising by the US Priory. The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem was first constituted as a Royal Order of Chivalry by Charter from Queen Victoria in 1888. Currently Queen Elizabeth II is the Sovereign Head of The Order of St John. Our work follows the motto Pro Fide et Pro Utilitate Hominum (For the Faith and in the Service of Humanity).
