The UCD Student Managed Fund (SMF) is a non-remunerated organisation which carries out a function similar to that of professi ... onals in the fund and asset management industry but on a smaller scale and under the guidance of industry experts. It has been one of the I&E Society's most successful programs over the past three years, attracting students from various disciplines and all years of study. The fund aims to create, for its members, an experiential learning environment that connects the academic theory of finance with real life industry practice. Students are able to gain experience in managing a real life investment fund and get the opportunity to participate in all stages of the investment process, from research to trading, reporting and pitching. The purpose of the fund can be highlighted in the following 3 points: 1. To provide a platform for the brightest and most ambitious students interested in finance to apply their skills in the real world under the guidance of industry professionals 2.
