Public Health 116 is a subprogram of the Health and Medical Apprenticeship Program (HMAP), a registered student organization ... with the Associated Students of the University of California. Public Health 116 is an upper-division lecture seminar designed to introduce students to the discipline of public health. Each week in our syllabus focuses on a different topic within public health such as Violence, Infectious Disease, or Bioethics, and we invite prominent guest speakers from academia, business, and non-profit sectors to discuss their work and provide an overview of current efforts in their fields. This class is graded on a 3 units, Pass/No Pass basis and fulfills the Social and Behavioral breadth requirement for the College of Letters and Science. Additionally, the class counts towards elective units for the Public Health major. Our program is created by, and for, undergraduate students. Public Health 116 is led entirely by two student coordinators that plan, produce, and proctor every semester of our course. In addition, we have a team of undergraduate teaching assistants that lead PH116 students in weekly discussions that dive deeper into course material and challenge students to think critically about the problems that face population health. As we begin our Fall semester online, PH116 is dedicated to providing a meaningful and engaging experience for students by leveraging our online platform to access guest speakers from around the country to share their unique public health experiences with our course. We're excited to pioneer this distance learning curriculum and continue to provide an excellent platform for students to explore and discuss important public health topics. read more
