The U is a community-run freeform radio station that strives to offer unique programming while providing a service that is both educational and entertaining to the University of Missouri-Saint Louis community and beyond. Managed by students, faculty, staff and alumni and overseen by the Student Electronic Media Professionals’ Association. The U first went on the air in Spring 2006, broadcasting out of the office of Dr. Charles Granger, biology professor. With the support of many, funds were generated to build new facilities at the core of the UM-St. Louis campus – the Millennium Student Center.
