The Society of the Golden Keys of Great Britain & the Commonwealth

Hospitality · London, England
Website: www.lesclefsdorgb.org

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in The Society of Golden Keys of Great Britain. We are a friendly association of hot ... el concierge who are affiliated to the Union Internationale des Concierges d’Hotels – Les Clefs d’Or®. In the way that Champagne can only come from the Champagne region of France, a Les Clefs d’Or® Concierge can only come from a hotel. To become a member, an applicant must have served a minimum of five years as a concierge, be proposed by two members who have themselves been members of the Society for at least three years. The applicant will be interviewed and tested by a panel comprised of Committee Members and Honorary Life Members. Once their knowledge, experience and integrity has been ascertained, their application will be presented to the entire Membership for approval. Not an easy process to endure, but once successful the candidate will be able to proudly wear their Golden Keys, exclusively produced by Swiss jeweller Bucherer. The Society, has been in existence since 1952, when a group of Head Hall Porters of several leading London Hotels got together and agreed to set up an organisation which closely resembled one which had been formed some years earlier in France called Les Clefs d’Or (The Golden Keys). The first President was Mr Jimmy Stewart (not the actor!) and he served from 1952 until 1956. I am the 20th President of the Society. Membership of The Keys allows our members to network, not only nationally, but internationally through our affiliation with 45 similar national organisations across the globe which make up L’Union Internationale des Concierges d’Hotels (UICH). The International section holds a congress in a different country every year, and we encourage our members to participate, and by so doing, they meet and get to know fellow concierges from around the world. This can often make the difference when seeking to help our guests, wherever their travels take them. read more
