Founded in 2015 through a gift by American International Group (AIG), the Risk Engineering and System Analytics Center (RESA) ... is a unique blend of academic research, industry experience and applied innovation. From its beginning, the partnership aimed to enhance risk transparency for both insurance providers and industry through co-development of state-of-the-art natural hazard models. Together, Clemson researchers worked with AIG partners to improve existing models and generate new loss estimates for targeted areas throughout the world. Education and training opportunities were also discovered when insurance experts teamed with University professors to develop customized education programs for risk engineering. The shared goal in these efforts was to provide stakeholders of risk with an enhanced understanding of exposures and vulnerabilities so that they might better focus resources where they are needed most. Today, the RESA Center represents a new territory where traditional research and formal education collide with the immediate and practical needs of industry. In this space, researchers and students gain valuable insight to real-world challenges that help direct and refine their studies, while practitioners connect through a direct line to novel discoveries shortening the transition from research to practice. In collaboration with the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University, RESA offers a Masters of Engineering degree and three graduate certificate programs. These programs feature a stackable-certificate model, which enables students to complete certificates in pursuit of the Masters of Civil Engineering in Risk Engineering and System Analytics. The 12-credit hour graduate certificates include concentrations in Risk Engineering, System Analytics, and Risk Management. Developed through collaboration between industry partners and education experts for you. read more
