In 1975 OJ Fleming and James C. (abbreviated for privacy) formed Northern Electrical Contractors, Inc. in Denver, Colorado, w ... ith a few thousand dollars and a pickup truck. Mr. C. operated the estimating and project management side of the business while Mr. Fleming ran the field operations. The company grew substantially during these years. In approximately 1984, Mr. Fleming purchased Mr. C's portion of the business. Approximately five years later Mr. Fleming sold the assets of Northern Electrical Contractors, Inc. to Fishbach and Moore, a subsidiary of Ficon Corporation. In 1989 Mr. Fleming and a partner formed Industrial Construction Services Inc. with many of the same team members from the original Northern Electric. This form of the company operated until 1998. In approximately 2001, a new Northern Electric, Inc. was established with ownership partners OJ Fleming, Al Fisher and Joe Dopler. (important to note that Fisher was a project manager for the original Northern Electric back in the 1970's, as well as senior management for Industrial Construction.). This new entity grew to over $100M in annual sales with over 700 tradespeople at its height. The majority ownership wanted to move towards retirement in 2016 and spent the next few years selling its largest assets, including solar firm Northern Energy and Power to a publicly traded company; its electrical arm to a large, nationwide competitor, and finally a $11M headquarters building located in a suburb of Denver, Colorado.
