The academy began life as a small school in 1788, and has served the community of Hucknall ever since. We have developed from these humble beginnings into the successful, diverse academy that exists and thrives today. We are part of the Minster Trust for Education (MITRE) which has at its core a collaborative model of leadership and a belief in sharing expertise while unerringly pursuing the best education for pupils in its schools. Our aim is to provide a happy and stimulating environment in which young people can develop and grow, preparing them for life after the academy. We want all students who attend National to take their places in the world fully prepared and with a great education, as well-qualified and responsible citizens, with strong values. Our staff work very hard to ensure that all students have high aspirations and do their best to achieve their goals. We are hugely proud of the high standard of teaching and support that we offer to all students, something that is acknowledged and recognised by the quality of our Ofsted reports. In return for the teaching and support we give to students, we expect them to work hard, behave well, and do their best. The high standards support the high levels of achievement and progress made in all areas across the academy. Our exam outcomes at GCSE and A level are above national averages and we believe that this achievement, coupled with a strong emphasis on individual personal development has enabled students to have greater opportunities and improved life chances.
