West Suffolk College is excited to announce a New Anglia Skills Deal Project in collaboration with lead employer Morgan Sinda ... ll and New Anglia Building Growth Group. The aim of this project is to bridge the gap in education identified by local employers between classroom/workshop and working on a live construction site. The College will introduce new training in Building Information Modelling (BIM) filling a void in current training provision within the region. It is important that our training participants leave college with the skills and competencies required within the region in both conservation and modern construction and are fully prepared for their first job in the construction industry. What will the project deliver? - BIM training in a new Conference suite – available to both students + local employers. - Showcasing skills and technologies of students by constructing 10 different building pods, demonstrating different types of construction from traditional skills, clay lump, lime plastering, flint work, medieval timber frame, thatching to modern methods of construction, e.g. modular construction. The construction site will adhere to all live site rules and regulations. - Opportunities for craft and construction management participants to develop leadership and management skills working together in teams, putting theory into practice. - Continued development based on industry feedback to respond quickly to training needs. - Industry involvement + investment including sponsoring PODS, donating materials or equipment, training, support + guidance, and sharing networks to increase opportunities. - Networking: students, employers, contractors, consultants, suppliers + staff This New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership supported Skills Deal project will result in a live site and qualified students, demonstrating the skills convergence of heritage, technology & innovation to meet the current and future needs of the local construction industry, supporting growth. read more
