The Jeff Bleich Centre for the US Alliance in Digital Technology, Security and Governance (JBC) is a research institute estab ... lished to confront the digital age’s challenges to democratic societies and to their international institutions. Accelerating rates of change in the cyber domain will continue to bring new technologies that diminish our capacity to distinguish truth from deception. Trust will be more elusive. Social media will be manipulated. The social dislocation produced by AI and 5G will be far greater than that experienced in the last decade. In the face of these challenges the JBC will aim to foster democratic resilience and enhance the Australian-American Alliance. Our contributions to research will include: Australia-US Alliance: Identify and develop new approaches for Australia/ U.S. cooperation that will enhance democratic resilience in the digital age Digital Technology: Anticipate the potential impact of the next phase of rapid change in digital technologies upon our societies in order to inform and prepare the public Digital Security: Help defensive policy makers meet challenges to national and international security Digital Governance: Devise new policies, tools, training and protocols to help people and institutions sustain democratic governance The Jeff Bleich Centre is named in honour of Ambassador Jeff Bleich, Special Counsel to President Barack Obama and a diplomat, appointed by President Obama as Ambassador to Australia, a role in which he served from 2009 to 2013.
