Hospital & Health Care · Eastbourne, East Sussex
Website: www.chaseley.org.uk

The Chaseley Trust was established in 1946 by Dr Luttwig Guttman to care for Military personnel returning from the Second Wor ... ld War with spinal injuries. Dr Guttman, who initiated the Stoke Mandeville Games, which later became the Paralympic Games, believed that injured veterans should not be defined by their disabilities and deserved to live a full and active life. We now provide our facilities and services to all adults over the age of 18 who have significant disabilities regardless of their military background. We are a 55-bed home based in Eastbourne and specialise in long-term nursing and respite care for people with complex disabilities, such as Acquired and Traumatic Brain Injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and degenerative neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone and Parkinson’s disease. Our multi-disciplinary approach to care and rehabilitation includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and recreational activities and we ensure our person-centred approach is focused on individuals regaining as much independence as possible, so that their psychological well-being and emotional balance are maintained. In addition to this our facilities included an on-site, fully accessible gym specifically designed for people who are disabled and living in the community. Chaseley is an independent, charity owned nursing home and our main source of funding comes from residents’ fees, which cover the cost of their care package and contributes to the daily running costs of the home. Various commissioning bodies fund the majority of resident care packages and we have just 5% surplus to fund all our additional costs, including the upkeep of our beautiful building, upgrading our equipment, and to provide the extra social and recreational activities and services that enhance the comfort and well-being of our residents, which is why we rely on donations and fundraising. read more
