THE BOX was a national network made up of local market affiliates which gave viewers the option to dial a 900 number and request the video of their choice, with the charge (starting at $0.99) being billed to their phone. Within 20 minutes (national average) the video would play in all the homes within the same cable/broadcast system'territory that the phone order originated from. Unlike other similar music channels, THE BOX was committed to introducing new artists and independent label-releases to consumers, and was the first video music network to broadcast new videos by such successful artists as Toni Braxton, Adina Howard, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, TLC, Primus and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Video Jukebox Network, Inc. was an interactive entertainment company that owned and operated THE BOX, the world's first and only interactive all video music network. THE BOX was available throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Holland and the U.K. through locally installed interactive BOXes and on satellite via Satcom C4, T11. In 1999, The Box was purchased by MTV Networks under the guise of "building a more attractive interactive-music-video service".
