The Arts Club was founded in 1863 to provide a haven for those with a keen interest in the Arts, Literature or Sciences. It h ... as long provided a sanctuary in the heart of Mayfair, for creative and entrepreneurial patrons to come together to meet, exchange ideas, dine and enjoy an inspiring programme of cultural events. The principal areas of interest among members include art, architecture, fashion, film, literature, music, performance, photography, science, theatre and media. 2020 marks a significant year in The Arts Club’s trajectory, with the first international outpost opening in autumn in Dubai. This will be followed by subsequent openings in LA and Canary Wharf. In 1896, the Club relocated from its original home on Hanover Square to its present elegant 18th Century townhouse in Mayfair, where members can enjoy exclusive access to restaurants, bars and lounge areas, as well as a garden, cigar room, nightclub and hotel. The Club has included among its members many outstanding figures in the history of art, literature and science. Notable luminaries include Charles Dickens, Thomas Hughes, Paolo Tosti, Charles Halle, John Everett Millais, Auguste Rodin and James McNeill Whistler, as well as an array of pre-eminent surgeons, solicitors and professionals. The Club’s art collection remains at its very core, highlighting international trends, as well as maintaining a focus on British-based artists. The permanent collection includes work by Tomas Saraceno, John Baldessari and John Stezaker, which sit alongside the Club's historic collection and a series of contemporary exhibitions which change throughout the year. read more
