About Us: TeachTeam is a Carbondale, Illinois based 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides free tutoring services to stud ... ents of under served schools in Illinois. By using our multi-faceted teaching model called the TEAM model, we hope to identify and address weaknesses in a student’s foundational knowledge of a topic, prepare a student for upcoming topics in their lesson plan, discover a student’s learning preferences and teach in a style they prefer, accommodate to learning/physical disabilities and/or behavioral disorders, and provide students important life skills that encourage the sustainability of academic success. We intend to improve a student’s academic confidence and encourage them to proceed on a path of higher education and peruse greater opportunities that the student may not be aware are available to them. The TEAM model is an anagram that stands for Testing, Evaluation, Accommodation, and Mentoring. Testing: Tutors will prepare tests based on a student’s previous coursework. Evaluation: Based on data gathered from the test, previous coursework, and discussions with the student/ student’s teacher, the tutor will identify areas in which to help the student improve. Accommodation: The tutor will accomidate to the student’s preferred learning style, using elements of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning learning techniques. All TeachTeam tutors are also trained to tutor students with disabilities ranging from physical, behavioral, and learning disabilities. Mentoring: TeachTeam believes that a student’s education is not restricted to the classroom. At least once a month special weekend or afterschool workshops will be held at local schools or community centers. During these workshops students will learn valuable study skills such as proper organization, note taking, effective group study tactics, distraction minimization, rhetoric, and much more! High school students will learn important skills that will help them navigate the path to college or trade school.
