The force has more than 1,300 officers policing Tasmania's population of over half a million people. It is part of the Tasmanian Government's Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (DPFEM) which also consists of the Tasmania Fire Service, the State Emergency Service and Forensic Science Service Tasmania. It is divided into three geographical jurisdictions: Southern, Northern and Western. Each district is further made up of several divisions, and is administered by a Commander.
