Swansea University Race Engineering (SURE) is a team of students from Swansea University. Each year, the team is tasked with ... the design, build and race of a single-seated race car under the Formula Student race series. This year is no different with over a hundred students from varying discipline of engineering, as well as non-engineers, working together to build the S18 car to race on the Silverstone Circuit in July. Formula Student is Europe’s most established educational engineering competition and the process of preparing and partaking in the competition helps students with gaining practical knowledge to complement their degree. The competition encompasses a series of static and dynamic events designed to challenge all aspects of the car whilst vigorously testing our engineers in areas such as research, design, manufacturing, testing, marketing, management and finances. The demanding environment of motorsport competition enables our members to experience real world engineering and prepares them for their job in industry. Additionally, SURE partake in various events and school visits to promote engineering in the hopes of empowering future generations to take up a career in engineering.
