Sutton Coldfield Hockey Club’s (“SCHC”) rich history began in 1891 and has had numerous highlights. Our tradition of providin ... g sporting facilities for the local community is widely recognised. The backbone of our success is built on a framework of great coaching and a support team of hard-working volunteers. We encourage any player to improve both their skills and social contribution and give that player the opportunity to play both social and competitive hockey that caters for a wide range of ability. Playing hockey at whatever level with the Club gives the additional health benefit of exercise and team work. The Club also has a developed pathway for those players who want to excel and play competitively at the most senior level. We have around 500 male and female members ranging from children as young as six years old to adults over-60. Our Ladies 1st XI competes in the National League Conference North and the Men’s 1st XI compete in the Midlands League. Every Saturday during the hockey season (September – March) we have the following teams playing: • nine men’s teams, • seven ladies’ teams; and • two mixed adult/junior teams every Saturday in the season. We are a thriving hockey club with a proud history in cultivating players who represented our country (e.g. Jane Sixsmith, Laura Unsworth, Mandy Davies, John Bell). At the Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards in 2018, we won the coveted sports club of the year award in recognition of our breadth of membership, achievements and how sociable we are! In addition, our Men’s President, Tom Owens, won the Volunteer of the Year award, reflecting all the hard work and effort he’s put in over many years. The club has a proud tradition of supporting hockey for the local community as well as developing many international players, coaches and umpires – past, present and future! read more
