In April 2000 when Jasper White opened his first Summer Shack on the outskirts of Cambridge in a spot once occupied by an inf ... amous Polynesian restaurant, Aku Aku, many of the customers from his former Jasper's Restaurant were shocked. White tablecloths, soft music, softer lighting, elegant dinnerware: gone! Turn up the music. Haul out the picnic tables. Bring on the fun. Smash the crabs right on the table. The only thing that remained the same from Jasper's fine dining restaurant was the quality of the food. Big blackboards hanging on the walls tell you about the menu specials. Serving seafood isn't like making bread. You can always buy flour, but fishermen have to catch the fish, and then the fish have to pass our rigorous inspections before we'll buy them and serve them to you. The term "kid friendly" is thrown around a lot lately, but at Summer Shack, we really mean it. All children can have crayons when they are seated to do as they wish on our paper covered tables.
