The Suburban Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra based in Beachwood, Ohio with a mission to provide free concerts of ... symphonic music to the greater Cleveland community and provide a performance forum for local musical talent, including professionals, amateurs and students. It has been called one of the premier community orchestras in the greater Cleveland area and occupies a unique position in the rich musical community in Northeast Ohio. It bridges the gap between the area’s renowned professional organizations and its many volunteer ensembles. A number of the orchestra’s members are music professionals, while others are well-trained volunteer musicians with chosen vocations in other fields such as medicine, law, engineering, science and education. All are highly skilled instrumentalists who share a passion for musical excellence. Since its founding in 1955, the Suburban Symphony has built a deep connection to the local community through its decades-long residency at Beachwood High School, its musical collaborations with other community performing groups, schools and area performing arts talent. It presents five free concerts throughout the year and typical seasons have featured performances of the great symphonic masters as well as lesser known gems, collaborations with other community performing groups, stellar local soloists drawn from prominent Cleveland music institutions and performing organizations, family concerts involving local schools and our well-known Young Soloists student concerto competition (which features emerging talents that have gone on to notable music careers) While the orchestra calls Beachwood High School home, they have performed throughout the region, including the Maltz Performing Arts Center, local churches, and Severance Hall. read more
