Dale Kuhn's background in homebuilding started with building custom homes in Pennsylvania. In the early 1980's, Dale moved to Virginia and began a career in production homebuilding. When his employer was purchased by a national homebuilder, he was asked to alter measures he had put into place to ensure a superior level of quality in each home he built. Unwilling to lower his standards, Dale left the company and established StyleCraft Homes with his son, Richard.
