With other communities that have levels of care, as one’s health declines, and they require more assistance, the resident must move to another part of the community, which can actually add to their health decline. Change is challenging to everyone, but when you add that extra stress to the aging mind of a senior citizen, this can be traumatizing. Our philosophy is keeping our residents in the same apartment as they age, but if additional assistance is required, outside caregivers or agencies, including hospice or palliative care can come in to help. If a resident happens to suffer with Dementia or Alzheimer’s, and are exit seeking, this is when we would have a conversation with the family and discuss transitioning to our secured Memory Care Neighborhood.
