St. Michael’s Hospice cares for adults suffering from life-limiting illness across North Hampshire. We serve a population of ... over 250,000 across all of Basingstoke and Deane, into Hart and East Hampshire. Since opening our doors 26 years ago we have seen over 5,000 patients at our Hospice In-patient unit in Basingstoke and cared for a further 2,000 patients through our Community Palliative Care Team who visit our patients in their own homes. At St. Michael’s Hospice, we believe that a holistic approach is fundamental to the care we provide and work hard to ensure that our patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs are met. We employ a multi-disciplinary team, comprising of nursing and medical staff, therapists, chaplains, bereavement support and family support officers. We understand how different life-limiting conditions may affect those in our care and, where possible, work with our patients to create individually tailored support plans that are unique to their needs. All the care we give is provided free of charge, however as NHS and Government funding covers just 20% of our costs, we need to fundraise over £3 million to ensure the continued level of care. We now have 10 retail shops across North Hampshire which help to raise vital funds for the Hospice, including a specialist furniture store. These shops rely on the generous donations from the local community with a range of items available including clothes, books, CDs and household items. Our fundraising team manages a full calendar of activities and events for our supporters from challenge events to Mad Hair days to walks, runs and cycling events as well our special remembrance services, Light up a Life and the Sunflower Celebration. Corporate Partnerships with local companies and businesses are essential to St. Michael’s Hospice. By helping to ensure that our financial future is secure, we can continue to offer vital end of life care and support to our patients and their families. read more
