Good health care is essential for a long and healthy life. Much progress has been made in recent decades, but many countries ... still face huge challenges when it comes to funding and delivering high quality health care. On average, health and life expectancy have improved, but there are big differences between and also within demographic groups. Lifestyle and preventive measures play an important role in this context. In this initiative academics from the disciplines of health economics, behavioral economics, public health care and international health care are joining forces to make health care systems fairer and more effective. The results of this initiative will also be reflected in the curricula of Erasmus School of Economics, the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (Erasmus MC) and Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management. The four action lines of this initiative are: Action Line 1: Prevention Main objective: To identify the most promising interventions to induce healthy behavior, focusing on strategies that are sustainable and cost-effective, and to implement those strategies in a randomized field experiment. Action Line 2: Value Based Health Care Main objective: To provide new insight into how patient perceived ‘value’ can be measured, and develop and test promising interventions aimed at increasing value in health care. Action Line 3: Evaluation of Health Care Main objective: To identify, measure, value, and compare the costs and benefits of health interventions. This is expected to contribute to more informed decision-making, and to optimize uptake, adherence, and patient satisfaction. Action Line 4: Health Equity Main objective: To identify interventions that are successful in reducing health inequalities, and to develop a normative framework to help policy makers optimize the trade-off between maximizing total population health and minimizing health inequality when prioritizing interventions. read more
