StudentITProjects.com was established as a Social Enterprise in Toronto, Ontario in 2013 by a group of Information Technology ... college professors and graduate students with high experience in internships, capstone projects, co-ops, professional certifications, conferences management and incubator programs. The overarching need for the initiative originates from the students’ strong desire to gain project experience in order to qualify for desirable IT positions. SITP Social Enterprise thus functions as a career pathway for students and as a talent identification and low cost project fulfillment organization for employers. Students understand that employers won’t hire them without IT project experience and skills. Consequently, they are willing to give their utmost to create opportunities. Business on the other hand have immediate IT project and staffing needs and are usually willing to give ambitious students a chance to prove themselves. However, they are willing to do so only at low cost and risk. Experience has shown us that despite a difficult labor market for recent graduates, employers are challenged filling specific technical positions. When appropriate skill are identified, they are often too expensive and not particularly loyal. With Student IT Projects, employers have commented that the most valuable aspect is “talent identification”. This allows employers to identify and nurture aptitude, attitude and talent early. To facilitate this process even more, SITP is working to develop “Just In Time” skills development in a program called “Skills in Demand”. This helps boost skill supply for those willing to give recent grads a chance in high demand areas such as SharePoint, MS Project Server, Azure, Linux migrations etc. read more
