SAHFOS is the home of the Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) which has been collecting data on the ecology of plankton since ... the Foundation's inception in 1931. The CPR findings often act as environmental and climatic indicators which are then put to use by the likes of marine scientists and Government policy makers to address marine environment management issues such as pollution, climate change and fisheries. SAHFOS works out of The Laboratory on Citadel Hill in Plymouth while the CPR's have been focussed on surveying the North Atlantic and North Sea on a network of shipping routes which cover the area. This work is now expanding with survey's commencing further afield. Our aim is to continue to extend the work of the Continuous Plankton Recorder Survey and to use it to promote research, education and knowledge about the marine environment. On April 1st 2018, SAHFOS was incorporated into the Marine Biological Association of the UK and has been re-named the Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) Survey. read more
