In 1997 the National University of Ireland, Cork was established, evolved from the Queen’s College, and the School of Mathematical Sciences has maintained a rapport for having a rich legacy, and for its dedication to research and education, by lecturer’s, researchers and students alike. The School is split up into three sections, The Department of Mathematics, the Department of Applied Mathematics and the Department of Statistics. The School of Mathematical Sciences, joined with the Department of Computer Science, is also home to the Boole Centre for Research in Informatics. Topics of research in the School now include: Fluid Dynamics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Mathematical Modelling, Biostatistics, Biomedical Imaging and Information Technology and Probability. The School is committed to the realisation of excellence in mathematical sciences research. The themes and areas of strength span a range of important topics and areas within the fields of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics. Some of the research is pure and theoretical while other work is more application orientated and empirical. Our areas of strength align with the broader research agenda of the University and with the National Research Priority Areas that were recently defined by the Irish Ministry for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation https://www.djei.ie/en/Publications/Publication-files/Forf%C3%A1s/National-Research-Prioritisation-Exercise-First-Progress-Report.pdf read more
