We are a grassroots organization that was started in 1984 by a group of surfers that came together to protect Malibu from overdevelopment and pollution. Our chapter is part of one of the most powerful coastal protection groups in the world, with over 500,000 members, 84 chapters, and 40 clubs. The San Francisco Surfrider Foundation is responsible for protecting our diverse coastline. We strive to be an integral part of our community by organizing beach cleanups, educational events, social gatherings, and more. Based on our geography, we are on the front lines to the threat of sea-level rise. We work with the City and numerous stakeholders, to make sure we protect our coastlines without destroying our beaches.
