You will appreciate that the location of our school, proximity to the seafront and the opportunity to partake in water-sports at Rydal Penrhos offers a significant benefit to the delivery of an outstanding Outdoor Education programme, one of very few schools in the UK able to teach sailing and windsurfing as part of the school curriculum. Pupils from Year 3 to Year 8 receive all waters-sports tuition as part of this enhanced curriculum programme. Our RYA Training Centre actively encourages pupils to develop both on and off the water, fuelling their passion allowing them to gain valuable experience in many varied aspects; pupils can expect to increase their skill set; independence, personal self-discipline, to develop in both physical and mental strength, build stamina and character. Sailing and water-sports encourage team building and cultivates pupils’ social and presentation skills. We encourage pupils to make the most of their time on water for either discipline; sailing cruising or the thrill of the race, to improve ability, proficiency and competence, learn to sail, drive or crew a safety boat or committee boat, assist with mark laying, learn to wind-surf, help organise events, regattas and race events. The school’s water-sports department is well-resourced with a fleet of dinghies and various windsurf board and rig sizes, paddleboards, kayaks and canoes appropriate for all abilities from beginner through recreational and on into racing squads. read more
