The department currently hosts two CT scanners and virtual simulation software systems, a superficial X-ray unit, a high dose Brachytherapy unit, and four Elekta Linear Accelerators with the provision of external beam radiotherapy. These machines are operated by Radiographers, offering complex treatment delivery whilst utilising high energy radiation to target cancer cells across a variety of tumour sites. The treatment choices for patients are underpinned by national strategic objectives for radiotherapy services including treatments such as intensity modulated radiotherapy, deep inspiration breath hold radiotherapy, and adaptive radiotherapy. The Radiotherapy Radiographers were adopted by Macmillan Cancer Support in 2017, and benefit from working according to Macmillan patient outcomes, and department specific aims. A variety of staff grades are employed including junior, senior and advanced clinical practitioner roles. All therapeutic Radiographer roles are professionally governed by the Health and Care Professions council, and the Society and college of Radiographers.
