Since 1978, Radio Lollipop has championed the healing power of play – providing smiles and laughter to children at a time whe ... n they need it most. Our organization is run entirely by volunteers who provide care, comfort, play, and entertainment for sick children in hospitals. We operate an in-house radio station and involve the children in fun activities throughout the wards. These moments of play are especially impactful when one considers that 1-in-4 children are admitted to a hospital before reaching the age of 14. Though some patients are short-stay, many have a recurring need for care and return repeatedly to hospital. Radio Lollipop gives young patients a voice, and a choice, during their stay. While they can’t say “no” to taking medicine or receiving treatment, they can request their favorite songs, win prizes, and hear their own voices on the radio. Those activities give youngsters a haven of normality in the hospital, which in other respects can be a strange, different, and often scary place to be. **Radio Lollipop New York at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is currently accepting new volunteers.
