Pitt Progressives is organizing the University of Pittsburgh! Founded in the months following the 2016 election, Pitt Progres ... sives was created by students who saw the urgent need to provide students with a meaningful outlet in which they could take part in the resistance of the Trump administration. Over a year later, the club has transformed into a hub of student activism and political organizing around campus and the greater Pittsburgh area. Pitt Progressives has steadily increased membership by focusing on causes students care about. In the November elections of 2017, the club played in integral role in electing Mik Pappas to District Judge and Anita Prizio to the Allegheny County Council. The club is now working to elect Summer Lee and Sara Innamorato to the PA House of Representatives. Pitt Progressives has also been on the front lines of important social causes. The club has led an ongoing campaign to make Pitt a Sanctuary campus; the effort has included tabling, petitioning, direct actions, and meetings with the administration. Last April, the club played a crucial role in the organizing of Pittsburgh's March for Science. Over 5,500 participated in the event, which took place on Pitt's campus. The club is now leading a Medicare for All campaign that includes M4A awareness, petitioning, and education. Pitt Progressives is proud to collaborate with many other progressive organizations and advocacy groups on campus, such as the Fossil Free Pitt Coalition and Pitt Prison Outreach. The club also frequently collaborates with other grassroots organizations around the Pittsburgh area.
