The quantity surveyor is the independent third-party budget and contracts manager for funders, investors, developers, contrac ... tors and trades. Quantity surveyors advise on assets that comprise 70% of the world’s wealth. Every year since 1995, the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) has held a congress in cities around the world where representatives from the thirteen member nations meet to discuss best practices and look to the future. Shifting environmental, economic and geopolitical landscapes present unknown risk factors in the short and long term, and demand for resources and land use continues to increase. The Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) is an international association of national organisations representing Quantity Surveyors in the Asia and Western Pacific region. Members include quantity surveying and cost engineering institutions from 13 countries and cities including Australia, China, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia, Fiji, Brunei, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Philippines, South Africa (observer), Indonesia and Hong Kong. The Mission of the PAQS is: - The promotion of the practice of Quantity Surveying (QS) in the region. - The promotion of "best practice" for QS in the region. - The promotion of dialogue between member organisations. - Encouragement of regional co-operation in the practice of QS. - Fostering of research appropriate to the better understanding of building practice in the region. - Rendering of assistance to members of member organisations working in each other's countries. In pursuit of the aims of excelling and promoting the practice of quantity surveying and cost engineering, an international congress is held annually in various PAQS member countries.
