By the mid-1970s the firm had become a major international provider of facility operations and maintenance services, and the headquarters were moved to Los Angeles. PAE Design and FM was established at that time to continue the firm's operations in Japan. PAE's architecture and engineering group has designed an extremely wide range of buildings, which in many ways has mirrored the post-war development of Japan. Starting with an emphasis on infrastructure and industrial buildings, PAE moved to office and apartment buildings in support of foreign investment in the 1980s, shifting to an emphasis on interior design and workplace restructuring in the post-bubble era, to a renewed support of foreign investment in the last few years.
