Founded in 1872, and playing its first game against Radley College on 10th February of that year, Oxford University Associati ... on Football Club is one of the University’s oldest and most prestigious clubs. Oxford played in the FA Cup from 1872-1880, reaching the final five times including in its first season and winning the trophy in 1874 with a 2-0 victory over the Royal Engineers at Kennington Oval. Oxford University Women’s Association Football Club, OUWAFC, was founded in the 1980s and constitutionally merged with OUAFC in 1998. The first Women’s Varsity Match was played in 1986, in which Oxford clinched the victory, beating the Light Blue side 4-3. In 2020, OUAFC and OUWAFC formally merged committees to play under one logo and to be governed by a single President. This allowed the club for the first time in its history to ensure equal resource allocations and training provisions to both its men’s and women’s teams. The club also successfully overturned the requirement for the Women to win the Varsity match in order to be awarded a Full Blue - ensuring parity in the awarding of Blues to both of our first teams. read more
