Optos was founded and incorporated in 1992 by Douglas Anderson after his young son went blind in one eye after a retinal deta ... chment was detected too late. Although his son was having regular eye exams, routine exams were uncomfortable, especially for a child, which made it impossible for the doctor to conduct a complete exam and view the entire retina. Anderson set out to commercialize a patient-friendly retinal image product that encompassed a digital widefield image of the retina in a single capture. Our vision is to be The Retina Company and recognized as a leading provider of devices to eye care professionals for improved patient care. Our core devices produce ultra-widefield (UWF™), high-resolution optomap images of approximately 82% or 200◦ of the retina, something no other device is capable of doing in a single capture. An optomap image provides a bigger picture and more clinical information which facilitates the early detection, management and effective treatment of disorders and diseases evidenced in the retina such as retinal detachments and tears, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Optos is committed to utilizing the latest technology to manufacture new products and software that support optomap as a standard of care, therefore, helping eye care professionals around the world save sight and lives. Furthermore the company continues to strengthen its clinical evidence and expand its disease indications to demonstrate the importance of imaging the entire retina. In addition, our range of ultra-widefield retinal imaging devices, support different customer segments and patient needs such as wellness screening carried out by optometrists in primary care settings or, more exacting imaging in secondary care practices that are clinically managing a patient base with advanced ocular disease. Our most advanced imaging devices for disease management and treatment support ophthalmologists and retinal specialists in the medical care market. Optos was financed through angel and venture capital investors until its flotation on the London Stock Exchange in February 2006. In May 2015, Optos was acquired by Nikon. In August of 2017, Optos celebrated the 25th anniversary of our founding and of ultra-widefield retinal imaging. read more
