The Nova Scotia Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (NSAMRT) represents over 600 members in various fields of medi ... cal radiation technology. Technologists and Therapists are involved in total patient management, from diagnosis to treatment, and directly influence patient outcomes. Many members of the association are also involved in important research and public education of many current healthcare issues. There are four (4) disciplines within the Medical Radiation Technology field, which include Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists, Radiation Therapists and Radiological Technologists. Currently, the NSAMRT is governed by the Medical Radiation Technologist’s Act from 1989, with a volunteer Executive Council. A new Act, the Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals Act, Bill 70, was passed in May 2013. We are still awaiting official proclamation, after which the NSAMRT and NSSDMS (Nova Scotia Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) will both cease to exist and the new Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) will become the regulator. The College will regulate the practice for five (5) disciplines: Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists, Radiation Therapists, Radiological Technologists and Sonographers in Nova Scotia. Upon proclamation of the College (NSCMIRTP), all registrants will enter into a mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program, earning 30 credits every 2 year cycle. Registrants will also be required to hold personal liability insurance (PLI). read more
