Norsk Regnesentral (Norwegian Computing Center, NR) is a private, independent, non-profit foundation established in 1952. NR ... carries out contract research and development projects in the areas of applied statistical modeling, machine learning and information and communication technology. NR is located at the campus of University of Oslo. The research departments are: The SAMBA department is one of Europe's largest and most competent groups within applied statistics and statistical-mathematical modelling. It covers a broad spectrum of methods and is a world leader in some of these areas. The appropriate choice of method for the various problems is a strength. The department provides the core technology needed for the majority of new AI-systems. The application areas include finance, marine resources, climate, health, earth observations, image analysis and machine learning. It is the host of Big Insight, a Center for Research based Innovation with funding from the Research Council of Norway. The SAND department is a leading international contributor to research and services within reservoir description, stochastic modeling and geostatistics for the petroleum industry. The primary goal is to use statistical methods and machine learning to reduce and quantify risk and uncertainty. There is also a significant activity on all kinds of risk quantification, primarily within the energy sector. The department has an industrial consortium, Geophysical Inversion to Geology, with five large petroleum companies as partners. The DART department has a strong competence in applied research within information security and privacy, e-inclusion and universal design in ICT, HCI, smart sensors, social robots and simulation-based training.
