High above the Pacific and watched over by the majestic Santa Lucia Mountains sits a little slice of paradise. Nepenthe Resta ... urant. This mecca of poets, artists, travelers and vagabonds has served guests for many decades, opening for business on April 24, 1949. Sitting on the terrace, enjoying a glass of wine, an Ambrosia Burger, or one of our exceptional homemade desserts is a quintessential California experience. The first time visitor to the Central Coast will not want to miss it. Once you have visited, you are destined to return. Visit Nepenthe for yourself and discover why countless guests have dined with us over the years. The Nepenthe property consists of Nepenthe restaurant, Café Kevah and The Phoenix Shop. The Phoenix shop is a unique gift shop featuring exceptional merchandise from around the world and local aritsans. With its vaulted ceilings, redwood beams, and windows looking out onto the redwoods and the stunning coast beyond, the unique architecture of the Phoenix Shop contributes to a heightened experience. Inside, gorgeous displays of gifts from around the world stimulate the imagination. We do not have a catalog because of our ever-changing, unique inventory. Some items are one-of-a-kind, others are of limited production. The Café Kevah is located on an outdoor terrace below Nepenthe, and on the roof of the Phoenix Shop. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Lucia Mountains. Terraced gardens. Bougainvillea, honeysuckle, and jasmine. Red-tail hawks hover overhead. Forests of redwood and oak lie thick below. The Café's menu focuses on the freshest ingredients carefully prepared, gourmet coffees, and home made baked goods. The open-air patio and counter service create a casual atmosphere where you can relax, take your time, and watch the whales go by. The Café takes its name from founder Bill Fassett's mother, a one-time suffragette, numerologist, and astrologer to the stars. read more
