The world that the Japanese shipbuilding industry finds itself in today is increasingly competitive. Fierce trading in South ... Korea and China means that maintaining the lead in today's market requires continual innovation and flexibility. Nakatani Ship Building Company represents the cutting edge of 21st century ship design with the development of new technology one of our priorities. Currently electric propulsion is in use around the world in passenger boats, icebreakers and submarines. Recent marked improvements in the control of electric machinery however, has widened the range of vessels in which it can be used. Working to reduce the life-cycle cost of chemical tanker vessels, The Nakatani Shipbuilding Company has developed an electric propulsion, domestic chemical tanker in collaboration with university ship research departments. Buttock flow is adopted, and many original ideas and new technology are included into the stern. The first vessel of its kind in Japan, the electric propulsion, domestic chemical tanker "SENSHO" was launched on the Sea of Japan on June 11th 2002. The screws are attached vertically to the hull, its simple structure high lighting the vessel's efficient design characteristics. The space required for the engine room has been reduced by one third allowing the bow to be narrowed and the center of buoyancy to be moved to the stern. Accordingly, the vessel's water resistance is reduced significantly to the smart ship form. Propulsive efficiency is 20% greater than in standard vessels and carbon dioxide and sulfurous oxide emissions have been reduced by 20 and 40% respectively. The improved propulsive efficiency of the vessel results in significantly reduced maintenance costs. read more
